February at Wolseley Wool

How is it already mid February? It felt like January went on forever but February is just zipping by. It’s been a busy month at the store with lots of exciting classes going on and new spring yarns coming in. It’s kind of hard to think about spring right now, but I have a theory that if I start knitting with cotton now it will come quicker! It’s Odessa here and I thought I’d give a little update on the store. You might have noticed our webstore is currently down. Don’t worry! We have to do some system maintenance and upgrades as it just was not working like it should anymore. We’re hoping to have it back up soon. In the meantime, if you need to order yarn or check on what we have in, don’t hesitate to give us… Read more »

Fav Yarn Friday – Sigrid talks about a new local yarn

This past month I have been away travelling and enjoying time with my family, soaking up the sun and views in the Canadian Rockies. But as much fun as I was having, I was still sad to miss our first trunk show with Blossom and Fern yarn co., a very talented local dyer that we are now carrying at Wolseley Wool!   The first place I went when I returned to the store this past Monday was to the tower display showcasing a variety of Blossom and Fern yarns, and I was not disappointed! So many beautiful colours and such lovely saturated shades, I am stuggling to decide where to begin. WIP Wednesday – What’s on Corie’s needles

I’m currently working on a Very Gifted Cowl in the Universal Worsted Deluxe Tweed. It isn’t the most exciting project to knit, but the plain stockinette makes it great project to take on the go (like to the Fringe Festival, which I’m doing tonight.) Like Mona, I have some baby knitting to do. I’m casting on for the Newborn Vertebrae cardigan in Ancient Arts Merino/Silk fingering. The other project I’ll be starting soon is TinCan Knits Bounce, in Cascade 220 Wave and Estelle Double Knit. I knit this baby blanket a few months ago in the Cascade 220 Wave and Berroco Ultra Wool DK.

Fav Yarn Friday – Corie is getting Tweedy!

One of my favourite things in a yarn (other than a good, woolly squish) is tweed. I love my pullover in the Rowan Felted Tweed, I can imagine I’m wandering around an old library in my tweed sweater (just needing suede patches on the elbows ) Other than the Felted Tweed and Rowan Valley Tweed, we haven’t really had that many tweed yarns in our store. Until Universal Deluxe Tweed Superwash. It’s so great! A worsted weight super wash, I’ve used it for a couple of gift knits. First is the TinCanKnits Stovetop Hat, an aran inspired cabled cat topped with a glorious pompom. The cables worked up nicely in this yarn, and in the porcelain colour, it’s good to know that it can be washed. The second gift is Churchmouse Knits’ Very Gifted Cowl, one of my favourite gift patterns…. Read more »
