WIP Wednesday – What’s in Odessa’s Project Bag

Right now I am working on two things I am excited about, one old and one new. The old one is a sweater that Mona and I had planned to work on together last summer but never quite got around to. The Fog and Whisper Cardigan by Veera Valimaki is a great, wear with everything, easy knit cardigan. It’s knit from the top down in fingering weight yarn with a shawl collar added after the shawl is done. We had been SO inspired during a Shibui Mix Party when we were playing with all of the different Shibui Yarns in different combinations. We were smitten with the combination of Shibui Pebble and Shibui Lunar. Both are lighter than fingering weight and combined knit up to gauge well. The Pebble gives the fabric a nice squishy texture with a combination of wool, recycled silk and cashmere and the Lunar gives the fabric a bit of sheen from it’s lace weight merino and silk blend.

We were talking about our summer sweaters at our Thursday knit afternoon and pledged to pick them back up again this summer. A few of the other knitters got excited so we’ve started an informal KAL which got this sweater back in my hands. It feels so nice I can’t believe I put it aside! Corie had brought in a Fog and Whisper she had knit in a speckled sock yarn and it was so comfy I would have stolen it if it had not been white and easily stained by coffee.

The other project currently on my needles is The Drifter by Tamy Gore. I love the shape of this shawl and the mosaic stitch details between the colour changes. When we were at the Blue Hills Fibre Festival I picked up a couple of skeins from Mammoth Yarn Studio who is a newer local dyer here in Manitoba. I was so excited when she dropped off some skeins for us to put in the store, you need to check them out! Her colours are gorgeous! This pattern is a great way to show off a couple of precious skeins of yarn. I just can’t put it down!
