Fav Yarn Friday – Mona’s knitting up a baby blanket

So this September I’m going to be an oma, well I guess technically not an oma, but my niece Katy and her husband Matt are having a baby and she’s like my daughter, so I feel like I’m going to be an oma.  As you can tell from my long rambling run-on sentences I’m pretty excited about this.  I’m someone who generally gets pretty excited about most things in life, but this is really something truly special.  So my first response was, what am I going to knit.  It has to be perfect and soft and squishy.  And then we got Classic Elite Yarns Sprout in the shop.  This super soft chunky cotton was exactly what I was looking for.  At 14 sts to 4 inches it’s the perfect weight and the unique construction of the yarn adds to the lofty feel.  It’s 100% organic and machine wash and dry so I feel like the new parents will be pretty happy with that too.  This yarn comes in a great variety of colours which makes it perfect for gradient or ombre style projects.  For my sweet baby boy grandson I am first making the Chevron Baby Blanket by Purl Soho https://www.ravelry.com/patterns/library/chevron-baby-blanket

I am using an 8mm needle and 5 colours of yarn and I’m so happy with the way it looks and most importantly the way it feels.  I can hardly wait to wrap the newest addition to our family in this cozy gift.
There’s also a really cute free shrug pattern that Classic Elite came out with that takes only 2-3 skeins! You can check out the Riptide shrug here.
